Screeding your walls is an easy and effective to fix a wall that may not be totally flat. This wall was a bit low in the middle. If not fixed prior to starting tile your either going to end up with a little dip in your wall which can be very noticeable, or spend much longer fixing it during the tiling process than if you had just correctly prepped before hand.

Weโre installing a Schluter membrane over the heated floor cable to create a smooth, level surface for the tile installation. While Schluter membranes are commonly used for waterproofing, in this application the primary goal is to flatten the floor and provide an even substrate for the mosaic sheet tiles in the shower.
We wanted to share a quick progress update on our house in Belmar. The prep work has been especially time-consuming but essential, including installing heat cables in three of the four bathrooms. Weโre also moving forward with a significant amount of mosaic sheet tile across both flooring and walls, which is really starting to shape the overall look and feel of the space.
Hereโs a look at some of the often-overlooked prep work that goes into a quality tile installation. This short video shows what it looks like to install a Schluter heated floor cable. We extended the heat cable beyond the main bathroom floor and into the shower panโbecause stepping onto a warm shower floor just makes sense. ๐ the area that is left off is where the vanity is going so it is very important that you figure out your vanity dimensions before installation.
Remember, you always wanna go with the grain ๐
Grouting base can be extremely tedious. Let me know if you like grouting base or if you have a more efficient way of going about it.
Yes, we still mud pans in 2026 and yes it is still extremely efficient and effective!
